Armenia and armenians

Armenia is situated in the south of Caucasus and its territory is 29.800 square kilometer. The population of Armenia is nearly 3 million people, the population of its capital, Yerevan is 1,2 million. Armenia is a Presidential Republic, its legislative organ is the National Assembly. Armenians are Christians and their church is Armenian Apostolic. The absolute majority of the population speaks Armenian which is their official national language. Armenians are 97 % of the population the other 3% consists of Yezids, Kurds, Russians and other nationalities. In 1993 Armenia has accepted its national currency – the dram.

 

Ancestry of Armenians come from ancient times. Living in the highlands Armenians live and create in the neighborhood with such ancient nations as Shumers, Assyrians, Persians and Greeks.

During their long history, Armenians have created a unique cultural heritage of architectural churches, manuscripts, miniature and rich literature. It's important to mention that Armenia and the Armenian language have passed their specific way of development, where different dialects bear their specific trace of the past.

Today more than 7 million Armenians speak Armenian. The unique alphabet of the Armenian language, created more than 1600 years ago, gives the opportunity to learn the culture, history and literature of the Armenian nation.
The Republic of Armenia is a mountainous country situated in a very small part of the former Armenian territory that serves as a cradle for the Armenian nation and a safeguard for the preservation of the original Armenian culture.
